60 finalists, 12 categories - these were the statistics that made up the finals of the 12th Philippine Web Awards. In the recently conducted awards night, 12 finalists were named Best Website for each category and another 12 were given the People1s Choice Award, surpassing several other contenders and months of evaluation.
The nomination of entries for the award started last September 1, 2010 and stretched to February 15, 2011, giving a two-year coverage of 2009-2010 for its 12th season. During the entire nomination period, hundreds of websites were enlisted and evaluated based on category and qualifications specified.
During the second half of February, nominations were closed and final evaluations were made on the entries. On the second week of March, the semi-finalists for each category were named and the nomination for the People`s Choice Award was opened to the public. For the eLGU category, six websites were included in the semi-finals, namely: Manila City; Zamboanga City; Padada, Davao del Sur; Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte; Lanao del Norte Province; and Sulu Province.
All throughout the next two weeks, the semi-finalists were again subjected to evaluation by a panel of judges composed of web designers, developers and artists. On March 18, the 5 finalists for each category were named. The voting for People1s Choice was continued, still including the semi-finalists, and was closed on the eve before the awards night.
Then on April 8, during the 12th PWA Awards Night, 12 local websites were hailed winners, including the website of Sulu Province, which won Best Website for eLGU Category. The winners of each category were determined by a set of judges, composed of both local and international top web design and IT experts, under the following criteria: Content - 20%; Design - 25%; Functionality - 20%; Technologies Used - 25%; and Originality - 10% .
